Institutional Grant and Scholarships
Student Financial Assistance Program
(Formerly Tuition Waivers)

The University of Hawai`i Board of Regents established the Student Financial Assistance Program with the following intentions:

• Support equal access by Hawai`i residents to University programs by making institutional aid available to students with demonstrated financial need;
• Promote the achievement of high quality educational programs by attracting and retaining academically superior students to our campuses; and
• Foster the development and maintenance of a highly diversified and stimulating campus environment.

The following are the Kapi`olani Community College programs:

Kapi`olani Opportunity Grant:
Need-based institutional grant that does not have to be repaid. This grant covers a portion of tuition costs for credit courses. Grant does not cover student fees. Student must be enrolled for at least 6 credits.

Kapi`olani Achievement Grant:
Institutional Grant/Scholarship awarded by various academic departments based on merit, service, recruitment and/or workforce enhancement. Priority goes to resident of Hawai`i students. Student must be enrolled at least half-time. This grant covers a portion of tuition costs for credit courses. Grant does not cover student fees. Student must be enrolled for at least 6 credits.

Kapi`olani Pacific Islander Scholarship
The UH Pacific Islander Scholarship was established to provide relevant education and training to those in the Pacific who will assume positions of leadership, responsibility and service in the Pacific region. Students designated with an exemption status for tuition purposes (pays 150% of resident tuition), resident of a U.S. affiliated Pacific Island and apply for financial assistance using the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) may be considered for this award. The award assists in paying the 150% of resident tuition differential. This scholarship covers a portion of tuition costs for credit courses. Grant does not cover student fees or pre-college classes (PCM or PCC classes). Student must be enrolled for at least 6 credits.

Kapi`olani International Scholarship:
The Kapi`olani International Scholarships is intended to support the University of Hawai‘i‘s recognized mission to provide relevant education and training to those who will assume positions of leadership and service in the Pacific and Asia region and around the world. Eligibility requirements: Classified in a degree seeking program; full-time enrollment; International Student (non-immigrant status); Students from the Asian/Pacific region, excluding those eligible for UH Pacific Islander Scholarship; Students studying the Asian/Pacific Region. This scholarship covers a portion of tuition costs for credit courses. Grant does not cover student fees. Student must be enrolled full time. Kapi`olani Centennial Scholarship:
Scholarship awarded to entering freshmen to the UH system Fall 2007. Eligibility requirements: resident of Hawai`i; graduate from a Hawai`i high school after May 2007; unweighted GPA of 3.8 or 1800 on 3 part SAT (or equivalent ACT); Full-time (at least 12 credits) enrollment. To apply submit a copy of your high school transcript to the Financial Aid Office. Scholarship is renewable for 2 years with at least a 3.0 GPA and continuous enrollment.
