The Medical Coding Program is a non-credit program that prepares students with no background in the field to work as professional medical coders and prepares them to take the national certification exam offered through the American Association of Professional Coders (AAPC).
This course will be 80 hours in duration and conducted online through Zoom. Please refer to the course schedule below for class days and times. Minimum prerequisites for entry are successful completion of courses in Human Anatomy and Physiology and Medical Terminology.
Professional Medical Coders’ duties involve reviewing patients files and “translating” everything into universal codes for insurance companies. They have a high level of responsibility to ensure that insurance companies are billed properly.
According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, median salary for Medical Coders is $44,090 per year or $21.20 per hour.
Admission into this program is on a First Qualified, First Accepted Basis.

Step Two: Demonstrate you have met the prerequisites To qualify for program entry, you must meet the following prerequisites with supporting documentation provided to the program coordinator after the information session. Documents will not be accepted before or during the information session that you plan to attend. You may send these electronically. Student copy of college transcripts, degrees or diplomas will suffice.

Step Three: Review, acceptance, and registration We will review all prerequisite submissions on a first submitted, first reviewed basis. If a student qualifies, the student will receive information on how to register for the course. There is limited seating for this course.
Tuition Cost, Tuition Assistance and Refund Policy
The tuition cost is $3,995 per student. All students will receive AAPC membership and current coding textbooks including ICD-10-CM, CPT, HCPCS and exam vouchers, and practice exams.
Various tuition assistance programs in our community may apply. More details may be obtained through the information sessions.
A 100% refund is given if the cancellation of enrollment is made at least ten (10) business days before the start date of the course. A 50% refund is given if cancellation is made five to nine business days before the start of the program. No refunds will be given if cancellation is made less than five business days prior to the start of the program.
All students who complete this program successfully will receive a UH Certificate of Competence and be eligible to take the professional coding certification exam offered through the AAPC.
