The Exercise & Sports Science degree at KCC has been temporarily suspended. If you are interested in learning about how to transfer to UH Mānoa to earn a degree in Kinesiology, please contact the counselors in the Maida Kamber Center for Career Exploration, Transfer, and Graduation Services at 734-9500/Ilima 104. The College is studying ways to bring the ESS program back.
Kapiʻolani Community College offers an Associate in Science degree in Exercise and Sport Science (ESS-A.S.) that prepares students for success as they prepare to advance towards a Bachelor’s of Science in Exercise Science at a 4-year University.
Students in the ESS-A.S. program complete a comprehensive curriculum in anatomy and physiology, kinesiology, exercise physiology, and have practical application courses during each semester that the ESS curriculum is being completed. The balance of the course work in the ESS-A.S. degree track is composed of General Education course requirements that prepare the student to apply to the Bachelor’s of Science degree track at the University of Hawaiʻi, Mānoa campus or another University.
Entry to the ESS program requires that students submit a complete program application and the completion of program qualifications by the application deadline. All students interested in pursuing either of the two program tracks should attend one of the ESS information sessions (see “Health Careers Information Session Schedule” link for dates and times) or schedule an advising meeting with a Health Science counselor and the ESS program director.
Degree and Certificate Programs
- The Certificate of Achievement (ESS-C.A.) program in Exercise and Sport Science is designed to efficiently and effectively prepare students to succeed as personal trainers. Current industry standards generally require personal trainers to earn and maintain personal trainer certification. The ESS-C.A. prepares students to pass an accredited and nationally recognized personal trainer examination.
