Thank you for your interest in the Surgical Technology Program. The admission procedures below are intended to provide guidance on the application process for the Surgical Technology Program.
Applications for the Surgical Technology Program are accepted for the Fall semester only. The Fall application period is May 1 to June 1.
Step #1: Attend a Nursing Information Session.
At the information session you will learn more about the Surgical Technology program, curriculum, admissions, and application requirements. After attending an information session, and for additional academic advising and support, visit a counselor during walk-in advising periods on Tuesdays at 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. and on Wednesdays at 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. in Kōpiko 201.
Step #2: Complete all pre-admission requirements.
Complete all Surgical Technology Program prerequisite courses before applying to the program. A grade of “C” or higher is required for all courses. For a listing of the prerequisite courses, please click to the Surgical Technology Program Toolbox and select the Surgical Technology Program Self-Advising Form.
Interested students should be sure to address all other pre-admission requirements for the program in preparation for their application to the program.
Step #3: Submit the KCC Admissions Application/Checklist Form.
All students applying to the Surgical Technology Program, must complete an (Surgical Technology) Admissions Application/Check List Form. The Surgical Technology Program application is submitted to the Nursing Department in the Kōpiko Building, Room 201.
Step #4: Selection and Acceptance
Accepted students will be notified by regular mail of their acceptance into the Surgical Technology Program. Accepted students will receive an Acceptance Notice and health requirement information from the Nursing Department. The Acceptance Notice will include information about an Orientation Session, health forms, technical standards, and other related requirements.
Step #5: Attend mandatory Orientation Session for new students.
Accepted students are required to attend a mandatory Orientation Session to prepare for entry into the Surgical Technology program. The Orientation Session will provide an introduction to the surgical technology courses and other related program expectations. The orientation session will also cover the required books and fees, health requirements, academic requirements and required uniforms and supplies.
Step #6: Complete all health and safety requirements.
Accepted students are required to complete a series of health requirements and forms in preparation for the clinical practicum experience.
Step #9: Register online and pay your tuition.
After attending the Surgical Technology Program New Student Orientation Session, you will register online for the Surgical Technology Phase I course. To register and make payment, please visit the KCC Continuing Education/Registration Office in Manono 113 or call 734-9211.
The College requires tuberculosis (TB) and Measles Mumps & Rubella (MMR) clearance in order to register for courses. TB and MMR clearances are completed with the KCC Kekaulike Information and Service Center (KISC) in ‘Ilima 102.
Since the Surgical Technology Program is a non-credit program, federal financial aid is not applicable.
Step #10: Purchase required books and supplies.
You will need to purchase required textbooks and supplies at the KCC Bookstore located in the ʻOhiʻa 116. Bookstore hours are Monday to Friday at 8:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Special extended hours are available during the week before the start of the semester. The Nursing Department may also make arrangements for surgical technology program students to purchase printed or electronic versions of the textbooks via the publishing companies and/or the KCC Bookstore.
