HOST 101: Intro to Hospitality & Tourism
Comment: HOST 101 has been approved for use as an elective for the Associate in Arts degree in Liberal Arts and the various AA Liberal Arts concentrations, as well as the Associate in Arts degree in Hawaiian Studies.
This HOST 101 class section (CRN 31324) is conducted online. Please check your hawaii.edu email account regularly for course notifications and email the instructor, Amy Shiroma (als6@hawaii.edu), as needed for additional information. Go to http://go.hawaii.edu/fP7 and take a quiz to help you decide if an online class is right for you. To take an online class, you need regular access to a recent model desktop or laptop and high-speed internet.
This class does NOT involve time-specific online meetings. This class does NOT require proctored exams. For this course, you will be asked to visit industry locations for research purposes.
For this course we will be using a Pearson eBook for Exploring the Hospitality Industry 4th edition. The eBook access for the course is being delivered through our bookstore’s Interactive Digital Access Program (IDAP). The cost of the digital materials will automatically be charged to your student account at a deeply discounted price. You are responsible for paying for charges applied to your student account. The eBook access is being delivered through our Laulima course. When you login to Laulima and click on the eBook link, you will automatically be taken to the content without having to register, setup an account or enter an access code. The first time you access the eBook you will see a screen where you can click to "View Course Materials". If you wish to opt out of this program and not get access to the required digital materials you have two ways to opt out: 1) Click the "Opt-out" button on the left-hand navigation bar of your Laulima course and submit your request, or 2) choose "Opt-out" in this link https://www.uhbooks.hawaii.edu/idap. If you have any questions about IDAP or this charge to your student account, you can contact the bookstore.
