Spring 2020 : Chinese Language & Literature

CHN 101: Elementary Mandarin I

Textbook Cost: $0
CHNS 101 is designed for students who are beginning to study the Chinese language. Students with prior Chinese language experience, including any dialect of
Chinese, should take the placement test at the Testing Center in Lama library before registering.
If you have taken Chinese in the past prior to enrolling into College, taking the Chinese placement test or seeing a Chinese instructor is recommended.
This CHN 101 class section (CRN 33298) is conducted online. Please check your hawaii.edu email account regularly for class notifications. Email the instructor (polley@hawaii.edu) as needed for additional information. Take this self-assessment quiz (http://go.hawaii.edu/fP7) to help you decide if an online class is right for you. To take an online class, you need regular access to a recent model desktop or laptop computer as well as access to high-speed Internet. Students are required to have a Chinese-ready computer or device that can play and record mp3 sound files, and that has a microphone, a web camera, and the ability to play back Quicktime movie files.
