Kapi‘olani Community College has been awarded $99,976 for a project entitled Connecting Indigenous and Western Knowledge Systems for Student Success in STEM. The grant funds “Gatherings” at the University of Arkansas with the Cherokee Nation, as well as other Native American tribes between Arkansas and Oklahoma, and at Idaho State University with the Shoshone-Bannock Nation. Dr. Robert Franco, director of the Office for Institutional Effectiveness, was one of ten awardees nationwide through this competition.

The project develops and disseminates comprehensive resources on indigenous and western knowledge connections including those being advanced in the University of Hawaiʻi system.
