Meet the Champions of Kap‘iolani Community College.

 

STEM Champions Image

Pictured Left to Right: Mitch Mikami, recognized for his outstanding data analysis using MATLAB computer programming. Roberto Ramilo, 1st place winner in the Social, Behavioral, and Economics Sciences category, for his oral presentation on “Estimation of Daytime Sleepiness in Hawai‘i.” Tatiana Oje, 1st place winner in the Ecology, Environmental and Earth Sciences category for her poster presentation on, “Summer Wind Analysis on the Kapi‘olani Community College Campus.”

STEM Champions

STEM students continue to explore and go where no one has gone before. Three STEM students did meritorious work in their undergraduate research and proudly represented the College at the 2014 Emerging Researchers National (ERN) conference in Science, Technology, Engineering and Math which was held in Washington, DC. Mitch Mikami, Roberto Ramilo and Tatiana Oje gave outstanding performances during their poster sessions and oral presentations, competing effectively against four-year colleges and research universities.

HOSA Champions

Under the able leadership of faculty advisor Mae Dorado, an instructor with the Medical Assisting Program, Kapio‘lani CC students performed brilliantly in the state’s Health Occupations Students of America (HOSA) competition which was held in February. The nine student winners pulled together to put Kapi‘olani Community College in third place overall.  As part of their win, they will now travel to Orlando, Florida in June.

 

CULN Champion

Melanie Tancinco, 2014 Hawai‘i Chaine de Rotisseurs “National Young Chef Rotisseur” competition winner. Melanie will now compete in the national competition from May 16-18, 2014 in Miami, Florida.

2014 Chaîne des Rôtisseurs Young Chef Competition

The Chaîne des Rôtisseurs, Hawai‘i/Pacific Islands Region, held the Jeunes Chef Rôtisseurs competition at Kapi‘olani Community College on Saturday, February 22, 2014. Chef Alan Tsuchiyama, an Associate Professor at Kapi‘olani and a Regional Culinare Provincial Chef, organized this prestigious island-wide competition. Six Jeunes Chef contestants participated in this year’s competition: four women and two men. Four of the Jeunes Chef contestants were from Maui and two from O‘ahu. Read more >>
