Kapi‘olani Community College welcomes you to the 1st annual “Your Kapi‘olani Experience.” We hope this open house strengthens your connection and sense of belonging with us. The doors of the campus are open and we invite you to partake in our food, live entertainment, unique demonstrations, and tour of our diverse campus. Explore distinctive destinations throughout our campus that embrace the essence of our passion and dedication to our students and community.

Let’s celebrate as we come together as a community!

SCHEDULE

  • Check In from 4:00 P.M.
    Enclosed are bookmarks highlighting information on activities at each destination. Join a tour of our destinations or feel free to explore on your own!
  • 4:00 to 4:30 P.M.
    Enjoy a live musical ensemble performance by Anne Craig Lum and Kapi‘olani CC student musicians.
  • 4:00 to 6:00 P.M.
    Roam throughout the campus and locate the destination buildings filled with demonstrations and interactive presentations.
  • 5:30 to 6:15 P.M.
    Enjoy a special performance by the Royal Hawaiian Band!
  • 6:15 to 7:00 P.M.
    Roosevelt High School Hula Performance under the direction of Kumu Blaine Dutro. There will also be food, a chili contest, and much more.

‘ŌHI‘A BUILDING

  • ROOM 118 CULINARY ARTS PROGRAM
    Could you be the next Top Chef? We think some of our Kapi‘olani CC Students could be! Come observe and participate in ongoing Culinary Arts Program student demonstrations with Chefs engaging in a Q & A with audience.
  • FRONTING CAFETERIA ALANI CHILD CARE CENTER
    No Fair is complete without the sounds and laughter of wee people. Come visit the Early Childcare Center and check out the goop in trays for a sensory experience, or table top blocks for a hands-on experience. This will be a fun stop!

KOKI`O BUILDING

  • ROOM 202 STEM PROGRAM
    Visit the Undergraduate Research Experience (URE) and see poster presentations of faculty mentored student research projects.
  • ROOM 203 STEM PROGRAM
    Learn about the human body and different medical instruments and techniques used to diagnose disease. The electromyograph, myoactivator and electrocardiogram (ECG) are few examples of what you will experience at this stop.
  • ROOM 207 STEM PROGRAM
    If you’ve ever wanted to meet a robot, this is your chance! Visit this unique stop and get robot demonstrations, poster presentations on black holes and wireless energy transfer.

‘ILIAHI BUILDING

ROOM 106 INTERNATIONAL CAFE
This is a one stop destination filled with action & compassion, sharing the best of oneself and the world with peace and aloha.

  • Activity #1: International Pathway
    Demonstration on how to make Roti, delicious Indian bread.
  • Activity #2: Intercultural Pathway
    Quinn Daluz from Toronto Canada, Intercultural Pathway Leader will share information on the International Café and a variety of projects.
  • Activity #3: Sustainable Art Pathway
    Handmade cards and objects made from recycled materials can be purchased for a donation to International Café.

There will be many more enlightening fun activities at the International Café.

KAUILA BUILDING

  • ROOM 105 RADIOGRAPHY TRAINING LABORATORY
    Check out the only radiography training program laboratory in Hawai‘i! You will see the latest x-ray equipment used to educate the next generation of radiologic technologists who will care for you and your family.
  • ROOM 208 MASSAGE THERAPY TRAINING LABORATORY
    End your week – or start your weekend – with a complimentary neck massage.
  • ROOM 217 RESPIRATORY TRAINING LABORATORY
    Meet and mingle with the respiratory therapy students. Learn about their undergraduate research projects that are contributing to their professional health care skills.

    Do you love art? Visit the Koa Art Gallery and see all of the amazing art pieces.
  • KOA ROOM 102 NEW MEDIA ARTS
    Learn about the highly creative, cutting edge computer animation and digital media design fields.
  • KOA ROOM 200 ART
    Experience artistic printmaking design and metal 3D printing.
  • KOPIKO LEARNING CENTER
    Engage in a virtual scavenger hunt using your smart phones to tour through Legal Land, Accounting World, Technology Town, and Marketing Central.

  • Activity #3: Cutting Edge Simulation Technology Experience lifelike patient mannequins, you have never seen anything like this before!

  • MANONO BUILDING, GLOBAL LEARNING AND DEVELOPMENT
    Experience global learning the GLaD way! Chinese character writing, Japanese etiquette, Legacy writing, and storytelling about Hawai‘i are some of the adventures awaiting! Come and experience a WoNdErLaNd of Brain games. Experience different games and how they relate to learning objectives and retention of information.Enjoy Hawaiian music by our Manono Ohana!
  • MANELE BUILDING, MĀLĀ MĀUNUUNU GARDEN HAWAIIAN STUDIES
    Are you aware that all of the buildings on the Kapi‘olani CC campus are named after Hawaiian words for plants? If you want to learn more come and visit the Māunuunu garden.
