Nā lawena waiwai – Values
Hoʻohanohano ‘ia ka ho‘īlina a ka Mō‘īwahine o Kapi‘olani e Kapi‘olani Kula Nui Kaiāulu ma o kēia mau lawena waiwai:
Kapi‘olani Community College honors the legacy of Queen Kapi‘olani through these values:
Kūlia i ka Nuʻu
Strive for the summit (highest)
Hāna kilo, heheʻe ke one, ke ‘ana kākoʻi, ʻau i ka wai, kea ka hau, a kau i ka wēkiu.
Gaze into the sky, the sand slides, the cave where adzes are made, swim in the water, the snow is white, and you reach the summit.
- Kūpono: Striving for the summit begins with being honest with yourself and in turn being honest with others by standing with integrity and respect.
ʻŌlelo Noʻeau: ʻO ka wai hiʻiaka ma mua, ma hope ka ʻawa.
The water first, and then the ʻawa. - Kūloa‘a: Striving to meet the needs for everyone in the campus community to feel supported.
ʻŌlelo Noʻeau: Ua nahā ka ʻili wahī o ka hua.
The protective covering of the seed has been cracked. - Kuleana: Striving for the summit means accepting that being a part of the campus community is a privilege that comes with the responsibility of holding yourself accountable to constantly seeking improvement.
ʻŌlelo Noʻeau: Hoʻolei ʻia ka ʻōnohiʻula e nā pali Koʻolau.
The rainbow-hued clouds are raised by the Koʻolau cliffs. - Mālama: Striving for the summit is sustained by nurturing and protecting the campus and the community.
ʻŌlelo Noʻeau: Kū mai ka ʻauʻa, kū mai ke kauhulu ʻōpelu.
The ʻauʻa appears; the school of ʻōpelu appears
