Be of one accord, as in exerting every effort to lift a heavy weight to the shoulder and to keep together in carrying it along.

Professional Development Fund

Kapi‘olani Community College is committed to providing professional development opportunities to employees to encourage, reward, and commit the institution to revitalizing its workforce as an essential part of the campus mission.

Chancellor Louise Pagotto affirms this commitment by re-investing the facilities and administrative (F&A, also known as indirect costs) recovered by extramural programs into the campus infrastructure to support innovative activities. These funds are made available through the Research Training and Revolving Fund (RTRF) allocation from the Office of the Vice President for Research & Innovation and the Office of the Vice President for Community Colleges. The Chancellor adopted a new strategy for increasing RTRF in anticipation of the greater need for grants development and administration support.

Campus administrators review RTRF requests at weekly Administrative Staff meetings held on Mondays. Successful applicants provide a post-training travel report summarizing how the professional development activity will increase grant capacity or support an existing grant project.

The Shared Services Center, in collaboration with the Office of the Chancellor, maintains a list of RTRF Professional Development Award recipients. This program is temporarily on hiatus, pending additional RTRF funding to resume the professional development awards.
