Makaloa:  a sedge used for weaving; mesh of a net; center of a flower (fig. descendant).

The inaugural Ulana Makaloa will take place on August 19 through August 23.

Throughout the week of Ulana Makaloa, Kapiʻolani CC faculty, staff, students, and leadership will have the opportunity to engage with the campus as we set the tone for the Fall 2024 Academic Year.

Ka Wehena Kaiao – The Breaking of Dawn

This event aims to share the goals of restoring and cultivating ʻĀina resources. As part of the Title III Part A, Kūloaʻa: Advancing Indigenous Innovators grant, attendees will learn about the opportunities and resources available at Ka Wehena Kaiao and the history of Māla Māunuunu and its integration into education. Participants will engage in two hands-on activities: preparing Inamona, a traditional Hawaiian condiment, and the Māmane Wearable Art Workshop where participants can silkscreen their own māla t-shirt. Dress comfortably and bring a water bottle. Supplies and light refreshments will be provided.
