Ulana Makaloa

Ulana: To weave, braid, plait; to prophesy.
Makaloa:  a sedge used for weaving; mesh of a net; center of a flower (fig. descendant).

The inaugural Ulana Makaloa will take place on August 19 through August 23.

Throughout the week of Ulana Makaloa, Kapiʻolani CC faculty, staff, students, and leadership will have the opportunity to engage with the campus as we set the tone for the Fall 2024 Academic Year.

Lēʻahi Walk

Time: 8:00 am – noon

Come join us for a walk around Lēʻahi, where you will become oriented to the land that Kapiʻolani CC sits. You will begin to learn the Oli Holo, chant to set sail, composed by Vice Chancellor Nāwaʻa Napoleon, which speaks of the wahi pana and significant places of Lēʻahi. On your walk you will learn about the history, place names, winds and ʻāīna of Lēʻahi and its surrounding areas. Wear comfortable walking shoes, hats and sunscreen drink lots of water both before and during the walk.

Curriculum Clinic

Time: 10:30 am – 12:30 pm
Category: Open to all faculty
Location: Lamakū Flex Space in Lama Library

This is a working session to assist faculty with ensuring they have complete and properly formatted SLOs, assessment requirements (CLRs), and KSCM documentation. The Curriculum Clinic is highly recommended for faculty who have a course update due, although all faculty are invited.
