The U.S. Department of Education Office of Primary and Secondary Education announced the 2021 funding cycle for the Native Hawaiian Education Program (NHEP) with additional funds under the American Rescue Plan Act. Kapiāolaniās projects promote Native Hawaiian student success through the following activities:
Ka Pohaku Kihi Paa: Building A Firm Foundation (Chancellor Louise Pagotto, Kapulani Landgraf, in partnership with Anuenue)
- Objective 1: Improve Native Hawaiian student enrollment, re-enrollment and graduation rates through a culturally-relevant academic and peer support program;
- Objective 2: Improve Native Hawaiian student enrollment, re-enrollment and graduation rates through financial literacy education and support.
HuliÄmahi Phase II: Joining Together to Support the Success of Native Hawaiian Students in Post-Secondary Education & HawaiŹ»iās Workforce
- (1) increase NH student engagement, retention, graduation, and transfer to UH baccalaureate institutions;
- (2) Increase the preparation and participation of NH students in high-demand careers in HawaiŹ»i and HawaiŹ»iās workforce; and
- (3) increase the capacity and professional development of faculty and staff serving NH students.
Kapiāolani has previously received funds through the Native Hawaiian Education Program as a collaborating institution for projects with the University of Hawaiāi at MÄnoa College of Engineering (HoŹ»omÄnalowai) and Alu Like, Inc. (KÅ«lia ma Kapiāolani).
