The U.S. Department of Education Office of Primary and Secondary Education announced the 2021 funding cycle for the Native Hawaiian Education Program (NHEP) with additional funds under the American Rescue Plan Act. Kapiā€˜olani’s projects promote Native Hawaiian student success through the following activities:

Ka Pohaku Kihi Paa: Building A Firm Foundation (Chancellor Louise Pagotto, Kapulani Landgraf, in partnership with Anuenue)

  • Objective 1: Improve Native Hawaiian student enrollment, re-enrollment and graduation rates through a culturally-relevant academic and peer support program;
  • Objective 2: Improve Native Hawaiian student enrollment, re-enrollment and graduation rates through financial literacy education and support.

Huliāmahi Phase II: Joining Together to Support the Success of Native Hawaiian Students in Post-Secondary Education & HawaiŹ»i’s Workforce

  • (1) increase NH student engagement, retention, graduation, and transfer to UH baccalaureate institutions;
  • (2) Increase the preparation and participation of NH students in high-demand careers in HawaiŹ»i and HawaiŹ»i’s workforce; and
  • (3) increase the capacity and professional development of faculty and staff serving NH students.

Kapiā€˜olani has previously received funds through the Native Hawaiian Education Program as a collaborating institution for projects with the University of Hawaiā€˜i at Mānoa College of Engineering (HoŹ»omānalowai) and Alu Like, Inc. (KÅ«lia ma Kapiā€˜olani).
