TheĀ Grants Office (KCC-GO)Ā is pleased to confirm that Kapiāolani Community College successfully applied for re-designation as an eligible institution for federal funding through the Titles III, V, and VII programs of the Higher Education Act of 1965. Kapiāolani is required to re-apply for designation every year to remain eligible for federal grant funding to support self-sufficiency through academic programs, institutional management, and fiscal stability.

Benefits of Title III Eligibility StatusĀ
Kapiāolaniās current status as a Title III eligible institution has tangible benefits through two new federal grant projects and federal emergency relief funding. Last year, was successful in applying for two federal grants through the Title III Native Hawaiian Serving Institutions Programs. In 2020 and 2021, Kapiāolani received additional emergency relief funds through the Higher Education Emergency Relief Fund for its designation as a Minority Serving Institution. Kapiāolaniās allocation was increased through its dual designations for serving ANNH (Alaska Native, Native Hawaiian) and AANAPISI (Asian American, Native American, and Pacific Islander Serving Institutions). Re-designation in the 2022-2023 cycle will enable Kapiāolani to seek additional funding to serve underrepresented minority students.
Impact of Title III Funding to KapiāolaniĀ
Kapiāolani receives Title III funds to support renovations and programs to fulfill its mission as an indigenous and Native Hawaiian serving institution.Ā A comprehensive list of current and previous Title III-funded projects is posted to the Title III website as a historical record of the federal investment into Kapiāolani as a minority-serving institution. The KCC-GO team also reported on the ten-year impact of federal investment to the UH Community Colleges System and its seven campuses through Title III, TRIO, and other programs serving minority students. Please stay tuned for more discretionary grant opportunities this year. Kapiāolani had another record-setting year with 41 proposals submitted requesting an additional $21 million for campus programs in FY 2021. With Title III funding, Kapiāolani established its Grants Office and has recruited a team of grant specialists to support faculty, administrators, and staff in seeking extramural funding.
