Grants and Scholarships
are made available by the generosity of private individuals and organizations who wish to reward students for a wide variety of accomplishments, including, but not limited to, academic achievement, service to the school and community, leadership ability, first-generation college-going, and specific major and career choices. Some take into consideration financial need and unique personal backgrounds. Availability of certain scholarships is dependent upon the availability of funds. Unlike loans, you don’t have to pay these funds back. Outside scholarships from non-KCC sources are added to your account, and depending on your financial aid package, your need-based financial aid MAY be reduced by a like amount (beginning with work study and student loans) per federal regulations.
Below students can learn about the various kinds of grants and scholarships included in their financial aid awards as well as from outside sources:
- Institutional Grant & Scholarships
- Scholarships & Grants (FAFSA Required)
- Kapi‘olani Community College & UH System Scholarship Programs
- Ibrahim Dik Economics Academic Achievement Award
In addition to the reputable scholarship search web sites listed above, you will likely encounter many unscrupulous companies looking to profit from your college dreams. For some helpful “red flags” to help protect yourself, check out the information from the Federal Trade Commission.
