Step #1: Attend a Nursing Information Session

At the information session, you will learn more about the nursing career pathway, program, curriculum, admissions, and application requirements. After attending an information session, and for additional academic advising and support, visit a counselor during walk-in advising periods on Tuesdays at 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. and on Wednesdays at 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. in Kōpiko 201

Select Nursing Information Session for dates and times for the (in-person) information sessions.

Step #2: Complete all pre-admission requirements

Complete the English reading requirement via one of the following:

1. Complete COMPASS English (Reading) Test with a reading score of 61 or higher or complete the Accuplacer (Reading) Test with a reading score of 250 or higher;
2. Complete ENG 21, ENG 22 or ENG 100 (or ESL 100);
3. Provide confirmation of graduation from a U.S. high school;
4. Provide confirmation of receipt of a General Educational Development (GED) certificate.

Step #3: Submit the UH System Application Form and KapCC Admissions Application/Checklist Form

If you are new, transferring or returning to Kapiʻolani Community College, submit an Online Application Form

All students applying to the Long-Term Care Nurse Aide Program must complete a (Nurse Aide) Admissions Application/Checklist Form which may be obtained by accessing the Forms & Documents section within the Long-Term Care Nurse Aide Program webpage, and then selecting the (Nurse Aide) Admissions Application/Checklist Form.

For Fall entry, nurse aide applications must be submitted between April 1 and May 15. For Spring entry, nurse aide applications must be submitted between August 1 and September 15. Depending on the number of applicants deemed qualified by the application deadline, the application deadlines may be extended.

COVID-19 Advisory: Due to COVID-19 virus, all nurse aide application should be mailed in to the Kapi’olani CC Nursing Department at 4303 Diamond Head Road, Honolulu, HI 96816 with a postmark date coinciding with the application deadline.

Step #4: Selection and Acceptance

Accepted students will be notified by e-mail of their acceptance into the Long-Term Care Nurse Aide Program. Accepted students will receive an Acceptance Notice and health requirement information from the Nursing Department. The Acceptance Notice will include information about an Orientation Session, health forms, technical standards, and other related requirements.

Step #5: Attend mandatory Orientation Session for new nursing students

Accepted students are required to attend a mandatory Orientation Session to prepare for entry into the nursing program. The Nursing Department will contact you to schedule your participation in the Nurse Aide Program New Student Orientation Session prior to the start of the nurse aide program. The Orientation Session will provide an introduction to the nurse aide courses and will also cover the required books and fees, health requirements, academic requirements, and required uniforms and supplies.

Step #6: Complete all health and safety requirements

Accepted students are required to complete a series of health requirements and forms in preparation for the clinical practicum experience. Please review the required (nurse aide) health documents as referenced within the PDF document titled (Nurse Aide) Admissions Application/Checklist Form, Kapi‘olani CC Nursing Department.

Step #7: Register online and pay your tuition

After attending the Nurse Aide New Student Orientation Session, you will be able to register online for the NURS 9 – Long-Term Care Nurse Aide course. To register and make payment online, go to MyUH Services and follow the instructions to log in. Payment by check may also be made at the Kapi’olani CC Cashier’s Office in ʻIlima 106.

The College requires tuberculosis (TB) and Measles Mumps & Rubella (MMR) clearance in order to register for courses. TB and MMR clearances are completed with the Kekaulike Center for Admissions, Records, Graduation and Financial Aid in ‘Ilima 102.

Step #8: Purchase the required books and supplies

You will need to purchase the required textbooks and supplies at the Kapi‘olani CC Bookstore located in the ʻOhiʻa 116. Bookstore hours are Monday to Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Special extended hours are available during the week before the start of the semester. If Kapi‘olani CC nursing classes are offered at the Leeward Community College satellite site, books will be purchased at the Leeward CC Bookstore. You may also have the option of purchasing your textbooks via an online textbook purchasing website.
